IT is Christmas time in the city and residents of Port Moresby have been attending church activities and carol singing in preparation for the important date in the Christian annual calendar.
People around the country use Christmas for family reunions and feasting after a long year, celebrate achievements, sort out differences and plan for the New Year.
Many families have been flocking to Ela Beach to enjoy the Christmas lights put up by the National Capital District Commission.
The informal vendors too are not too far away trying to earn something from the event.
Jacklyn Rex of 6-Mile has been at Ela Beach every night for the past week selling toys to children.
“We pay K1 bus fare from 6-Mile to 4-Mile and pay another K1 bus fare to get here.
“After our sales, four of us put in for a K20 taxi fare home,” she said.
“We come here when the place starts to get dark and leave when the beach is empty.
“We started coming here to sell when the lights were put up because it attracts a lot of people.
“Saturday and Sunday nights are busy and that’s when we make a lot of money.”
