THE Port Moresby Vipers are building a club house at Konedobu’s Sir Hubert Murray Stadium which will be the home ground of the Digicel Cup outfit once the venue is completed, says an official.
Club chairman Dr Newton Albert said once the Vipers relocate from the Oil Search National Football Stadium (NFS) to Sir Hubert Murray, they would be entitled to the gate takings.
National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop, who is also the patron of the franchise, said last year that the gate fees at the 18,000-seat stadium would be subsidised by the commission. Albert said on Monday that they would continue to use the Oil Search National Football Stadium in the early stages of the upcoming season until their new home was ready to use.
“The stadium is at its final stages of construction. We are excited and proud to have that venue as our home ground going forward,” he said.
Albert said the Vipers were disadvantaged when hosting their home matches at the NFS in terms of gate takings.
However, Albert said the Vipers would generate income at their new home ground in the upcoming Digicel Cup season.
