WITH only two weeks of competition left, the Port Moresby Women’s Softball Association has begun preparations for its finals and selections for the national championship.
Association president Ian Soweni told The National that selections for the train-on squads would follow the finals with the season expected to end next month.
“We have two more weekends of competition left and after that we’ll have our finals,” he said.
“After the last two rounds, we’re looking to have just three weekends of finals which should conclude our short season.
“We have a finals format but there will be a few adjustments to it before we inform the clubs this week.
“The national women’s championship has been moved to June now, so that gives us time to finish our finals around Easter.
“If we finish on time, we’ll be able to conclude our competition before Easter and pick our squads for the championship.
“We’re keeping track of players in the competition and we’ll be coming up with squads by the end of the season.”
Soweni said the short season would see a few senior players from last year miss out on the championship with their teams not participating.
The president said the association was willing to assemble two train-on squads by the end of this month along with a coaching team with one squad for development players while the other would comprise elite players.
