THE Port Moresby Women’s Softball Association this week announced that its corporate slow-pitch softball competition would start in three weeks’ time.
Association president Ian Soweni said an invitation for corporate bodies to register teams was still open with matches for the competition to start on Sept 18.
“We are seeking expressions of interest from companies,” he said.
“We have some companies still to confirm so we have extended the deadline to the end of this week.
“Also we would like to thank those companies that have confirmed their participation for the competition this year.
We anticipate the starting date to be Sept 18 so we are still open if companies are interested in fielding a team.” Slow pitch softball is a fast-paced version of the original game that requires strength and patience.
Although the pitcher throws the ball underhand at a slow speed, the ball is easier to hit.
The ball used in slow-pitch softball is smaller and denser than it is in fast pitch, making the version a much more high-hitting game.
Meanwhile, the competition received clearance from the National Control Centre with its Niupela Pasin unit approving matches for all affiliate members of the Papua New Guinea Softball and Baseball Confederation.
“The competition will be played under the new normal (Niupela Pasin) regulations of the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation and centre.”
