THE Port Moresby Australian Football League (POMAFL) will host two washout games tomorrow ahead of their finals which starts next weekend at Colts Oval.
POMAFL president Douglas Lai told The National yesterday that Port Power and Gordon Kokofas have outstanding games for their reserve and A grade teams.
Lai said the washout game would be important for the A grade division as Power and Kokofas were on sixth and fifth places respectively hence they would be fighting for a spot in the top five for the finals.
“These matches were supposed to be played in game 10 of round one but it got cancelled due to some reasons,” Lai said.
“We cannot go into finals without completing these games because it’s very important as far as our competition ladder is concerned. With 10 teams participating in the competition, we have top five teams who compete in the finals.
“For the A grade, it will be crucial because Powers and Kokofas are vying for the fifth spot on the competion ladder.
“There’s not much points difference separating the two sides so whoever wins will go into the finals,” said the league president yesterday. Lai said the Wests Eagles finished first and were crowned minor premiers for the A grade division for the 2022 season.
The finals for the reserve and women’s divisions will be on next Saturday.
Meanwhile, Lai said the washout games were cancelled last weekend following issues at the Colts Oval and the Bisini sports precinct venue management.
“We had some issues with venue management at Bisini so we had to delay the finals for another week and we will complete the washout games on Saturday,” Lai said this week.
The city league will also be looking into selections for its representative side which will be participating in the national championships towards the end of the year for both the men’s and women’s divisions.
