Post PNG has launched its Christmas stamp with the commemorative stamp of the 500th year of reformation and birth of the Lutheran Church to mark the festive season.
Post PNG philatelic manager Banian Masiboda said the launching of its Christmas stamp issue and the PNG Lutheran church’s stamp in commemoration of the 500 years reformation globally was a special and timely event.
He said both stamps ultimately were in honour of Christ Jesus.
The Lutheran Church celebrated reformation annually but this year was special as it was 500 years after founder
Martin Luther reformed the church, said the chairman of the PNG Lutheran Church’s 500th year of reformation committee, Kingston Alu.
Alu said the launching of the postal stamp was to show Lutherans around the world that the church in PNG had celebrated the 500 years of reformation.
He said to commemorate 500 years reformation the committee chose the theme ‘Liberated by God’s Grace’.
He said all Lutheran churches around the world commemorated the reformation and for PNG events were held from Oct 27-29.
“We are thankful to Post PNG. People around the world will see the stamp and know that the church in PNG has participated in the commemoration,” Alu said.
The official launching of the stamps was done by representatives of Post PNG and the Lutheran Church at the Post PNG office in Konedobu, Port Moresby.
Post PNG also presented a framed collage of the 500th year stamp issue to the church.
