PNG Power’s Rouna 3 hydropower station is back in full generation capacity after restoring its Unit Two machine.
Last December, PNG Power’s operations and maintenance mechanical team from Rouna carried out its first load test and was given the approval to put it back online.
According to a statement from PNG Power, with Unit 2 now back in operation, the Rouna 3 hydropower station is back to its full capacity of 10 megawatts.
Unit 2 had been out of operation since last January due to a system failure and power surge, causing the shutting down of the unit.
Work on dismantling the unit and maintenance work on it started last November. The Rouna team completed maintenance and restoration on Dec 2, 2019.
“The drive in ensuring all our hydro generation facilities are back online is part of the least cost generation plans which PNG Power has put in place under its reform agenda,” it said.
“This follows the commissioning of the Ru Creek hydropower station and the Lake Hargy hydropower station in West New Britain.”
Hydro-power generation facilities to come online this year include the Divune Hydropower Plant in Northern, the refurbished Warangoi Hydropower Station in East New Britain and Yonki Toe in Eastern Highlands.
