THE Warangoi hydro power station in Pomio’s Sinivit local level government in East New Britain has shut down since last Monday due to ongoing dry season in the past three months.
This was revealed by the PNG Power Ltd management.
According to a statement from the management, PNG Power said due to the ongoing dry season resulting in very low river inflows, they shut down the hydro power facility.
The management stated that on Monday morning, all thermal diesel units at Ulagunan, Aggreko and Kerevat had also shut down due to nil diesel fuel in bulk tanks at the Kerevat and Ulagunan power house sites.
The management explained that heavy load shedding started since last Thursday and had continued until they received fuel and river water inflow improved.
PNG Power Ltd also confirmed that they had just received 35,000 litres of diesel yesterday morning.
“The 35,000 litres is just equivalent to one day, to keep us going, we need more litres of diesel fuel,” the power firm said.
