Powerlifting appoints interim board to continue business

THE Papua New Guinea Powerlifting Federation has appointed an interim board with national representative Linda Pulsan named as president, according to an official.
Joining Pulsan on the board is Chris Barry (vice-president), Alfred Mel (treasurer), Vagi Henry (secretary) and Phil Priestly (team manager).
Henry told The National yesterday that the appointments were to ensure continuity in terms of participation in international and local competitions.
“Most of our executives were mostly inactive since Michael Kingston (former president) had resigned due to health issues,” he said. “After Michael’s resignation, we noticed that there wasn’t much support for powerlifting which saw most of the executives either leave or abandon their posts.
“There were a few meetings held this year by the PNG Olympic Committee (PNGOC) and it was only Pulsan and I who volunteered to represent powerlifting.
“Former vie-president Pulsan decided that we needed interim executives so we forwarded the candidates’ names to PNGOC and they agreed with the appointments since it was the same group of people who had been attending meetings.”
