Powi says potato can spearhead progress

SOUTHERN Highlands Governor William Powi says potato is an important cash crop that can spearhead the province’s socio-economic progress and growth.
“We must, therefore, provide whatever support possible for the potato industry,” he said.
“That is why the potato farming project was launched last Thursday in Poroma local level government (LLG).
“Similar projects will also be launched in other districts and LLGs.”
Powi said Southern Highlands’ future was the growth of the potato industry and that “there is no other way”. “This is why we are giving priority to road links,” he said.
“Roads contribute to the economic growth of this country.
“If there are no road connections or if there are poor roads, it makes it difficult for children to go to school and expensive for farmers to bring their produce to the markets.”
