PPL decide to lay foundation for goals

PNG Power has to set the foundation now to meet the Government’s goal of 70 per cent electricity coverage for the country, acting chief executive officer Alex Oa said.
The workers had gathered for the board and management to explain why their outstanding claims were not settled since 2010.
“I want that foundation to be laid and one of the ways is to make sure we come up with smarter ways of electricity generation,” Oa said.
“You all need to come with me on this ride and support this as it is very important for our country.”
He said the demand for the 5 per cent CPI to be paid next week would not be possible.
“Human resource did a submission and I sent it back. I wanted it written properly because it has to go on record,” Oa said.
“The longer we delay you will be paid back pay so there are advantages of these things.
“We have an agreement that is failing us, they need to go back and sit down and discuss the real issues and bring it to management.”
In response to the slow work pace that the workers had yesterday, he said the company needed to generate revenue.
“If the lights go off where will that money come from to keep the business going and to pay them too so those are things the union needs to understand and communicate with management.”
