THE People’s Progress Party has paid tribute to former Finschhafen MP, Guao Katucnanec Zurenuoc, who died recently.
Party national president Brown Sinamoi described Guao’s death as an end to another chapter of the distinguished Zurenuoc family of Finschhafen
“Like his father, the former Lutheran bishop of Zurewe Zunrenuoc, and his uncle and former minister and long-time general secretary of PPP Sir Zibang Zurenuoc, Guao contributed much to the development of PNG as a public servant,” he said.
“I personally had the pleasure to work with him and admired his professionalism.”
Zurenuoc was the secretary for transport, forestry and lands before being elected into parliament in 2002.
The party said his contribution to civil service and public life was a testament to his hard work.
He said Zurenuoc’s silent but strong determination was tested when the Somare government wanted to pass amendments to section 145 of the Constitution to extend the 18-month grace period to three years.
“Together with Andrew Baing and Byron Chan, Zurenuoc put principle as well as the party before personal benefits and defeated the Bill,” he said.
Sinamoi praised his clarity of mind and strength of character, saying Zurenouc never complained about anything.
“On behalf of PPP members and supporters, I convey our sincere condolences and deepest sense to the family of Guao Zurenuoc.”
