A young pregnant woman was found dead hanging from a tree in a suspected suicide at Kagua-Erave in Southern Highlands.
The woman, aged 17, from Muniputi village, Kagua, was suspected to have hanged herself from a tree branch last Saturday at evening and was found early the next day.
Kagua police station commander Chief Sgt Busale Uwa and Highway 21 crew commander Raymond Alo, who was at the scene of the incident, said the woman allegedly committed suicide after numerous mistreatment from her husband, who was allegedly having an affair with another woman.
The body was retrieved from the tree last Sunday morning.
“The relatives of the woman, after hearing the tragedy, went into the husband’s village and demanded compensation while the body was still hanging on the tree branch. However, we went in with the aid of a village elder from Porane village and calmed the situation,” Alo said.
The two policemen condemned the actions of the husband of the woman for his continuous brutality, disrespect and unfaithful behaviour that led to the suicide.
SHP PPC was aware of the situation and had commended the PSC and H21 crew commander for their efforts in moving into the area to calm the situation.
Kagua police is now looking for the husband for further questioning on the death of his wife.
