Preparation is key for the Lae City Dwellers when they go into their first quarterfinals in the OFC Champions League, says skipper Raymond Gunemba.
The 31-year-old, who scored four goals in their pool match against Tupapa Marearenga FC of Cook Islands, described their campaign as satisfactory.
Gunemba and his team mates have begun their preparations for the quarterfinals and will know who their opponents will be in the coming days.
“All teams that make it to the quarterfinals are strong teams but right now we don’t know who we are going to go up against but we will know by the beginning of March,” Gunemba said.
“In our preparations for the quarterfinals we will have to work hard in training and polish up on those areas we lacked in so that we are well-prepared.
“For me as the captain I think our preparations are key going into the quarterfinals.
“In our pool games, we were well-prepared and focused in the first two games where we gave all our best.
“After the good result from the two pool games which we won and the boys heard that the team has already qualified for the next stage which is the quarterfinals, I think the boys were too relaxed and over-confident.
“That’s one of the reasons I can think of that contributed to our loss against Nakultan FC and I wasn’t happy with that performance.
“I am confident of leading the players into the quarterfinal but it depends on each and every individual player and how everyone contributes as a team, discipline and commitment on and off the field are important.”
