VIVIGANI Primary School in Goodenough Island, Milne Bay, has opened its new double classroom and a teacher’s house on Wednesday.
Kiriwina-Goodenough MP Douglas Tomuriesa said during the opening of the two buildings on Wednesday that the district development authority would make sure education service was provided to achieve better outcomes.
He said K100,000 was put into the two buildings that were built from timber made from portable sawmills.
“We have given you little money and you have transformed it into something very big,” he said.
“I look forward to continue to support Vivigani Primary and the schools around the Goodenough for more developments to come.”
Tomuriesa said the district development authority would continue to support education through its scholarship programme.
“We have more than 2,700 young men and women from Kiriwina-Goodenough who have gone to, for the first time in this term, we have sent out first students, four of them, to the Philippines.
“For the first time, we have graduated our students in masters, last year, we graduated one who became a professor.
“Kiriwina scholarship is growing, what we want is more teachers and educationists coming and building infrastructure, whatever little that the Government gives you.”
Tomuriesa’s wife Rachael also bought several solar street lights and presented them to the school.
Vivigani has 335 students, 10 teachers plus a Chaplin who also teaches.
There are two classrooms each for grades three to six and one classroom each for grades seven and eight.
A library with computer lab was also opened last year.
