Principal appeals for help to renovate rundown school

CHRISTIAN integrated school established in Morobe in 1999 and recognised by the Morobe education board is rundown and needs a collective effort to revive it, principal Lawrence Maroni says.
The school is located at Limki outside Lae and has the permit to operate and coordinate educational programmes under the national curriculum.
Maroni said as a permitted institution, it has run programmes from elementary through to Grade 12 and adult literacy as well.
“The demand to extend these programmes have increased and requests have been made through the social and community affairs divisions of these integrated Christian schools nationwide,” Maroni said.
He said the integrated Christian school had more than 23 campuses in five provinces and contributed to the development of human resources in the country.
The campus at Limki over the years has seen it neglected, with classrooms disintegrated with some buildings without power and water, he said.
The previous management of the school is being partly blamed for the state of the school as classes from elementary through to year 12 were cut.
Maroni said the school was under the tuition fee free policy and was receiving fees but teachers were paid by the institution.
The school has more than 200 students, 22 staff but TFF funding was suspended due to mismanagement allegedly by past administration over the last two years.
