FIRST-year students at the University of PNG have been advised to prioritise their studies and work hard.
Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology secretary Fr Jan Czuba told them during the orientation programme to believe in themselves.
“Tell yourself, I can do this,” he said. “The only person that is going to stop you is you.”
Fr Jan said many students had applied for places but “only the best ones” were selected.
He advised them to manage their time well and choose friends who would support them in their school work and develop them in a positive way.
University of PNG vice chancellor Prof Frank Griffin said they had selected 900 students from Grade 12.
“But we also have students from other categories like the non-school leavers,” he said.
“Other students are reenrolling, meaning they failed but are coming back,” he said.
The university’s orientation will end next Tuesday.

  • Students who attends the orientation are very privilege to hear good advices & encouragements given during this orientation.

  • If they are selecting only the best students to get in , then why are they re-enrolling those ones that have failed ?. I mean , there’s no point of re-enrolling them again its best they give the space to those new students coming in to do first year or the continuing students and give other options to those who have failed .
