MORE than 60 inmates from the low and high risk cells at Buimo prison in Lae, Morobe, received certificates of achievement on Thursday after completing their Bible study programme.
The occasion was witnessed by acting Correctional Services commissioner Stephen Pokanis, other delegates from the CS head office, Buimo prison commander Supt Judy Tara, CS officers, inmates and church representatives.
The inmates underwent the study as part of the rehabilitation programme that the prison was embarking on together with help from stakeholders.
Inmates who received certificates were from the high risk and low risk cells as well as some from the female wing.
Mapai Transport contributed K1,000 and Bibles while Kuima Security Services gave K2,800 to support rehabilitation work at the prison.
Tara said the course, called the Cross Road Bible study, was done by correspondence with the marking of the test and assessment papers in Australia and the results sent back.
