Private sector must back census: Tarutia

FOR the private sector, accurate population figures help identify new markets and investment opportunities, according to the PNG Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Chamber president Ian Tarutia said the business community must support the state with the national population census exercise by ensuring employees were counted.
“Data collecting institutions on people such as banks, superannuation funds and savings and loan societies for instance, can partner with the National Statistical Office (NSO) and through their extensive branch networks collect data for the NSO.
“This is not just a Government activity. It concerns all residents. We must all play our part,” he said.
“Reliable and accurate census figures help our national planners better allocate scarce resources, especially where it is needed.”
