Privileged to host Indonesian envoy

Letters

AS a member of the St Paul’s Catholic church congregation in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, I, on behalf of the other members, would like to thank the Indonesian ambassador for your visit to the parish last Thursday.
It was a historical moment for the parish as this is the first time for a foreign dignitary to visit the church.
St Paul’s parish serves more than 10,000 members of the parish and 11 outstations. The parish has 14 LKK (small Christian communities) with 100-odd practising and non-practising members in each community.
Each outstation has its own number of LKKs.
I, as the LKK leader of St Paul’s, also congratulate our Parish Priest Fr Jayakira for facilitating the visit to the church.
Indonesia is a Muslim country but its ambassador’s visit to St Paul’s parish is a testament to the Indonesian people’s acceptance of other cultures and religions.
Fr Jayakira, an Indonesian himself, is a fine example of humility and kindness and piety of the Indonesian people and we are lucky to have a parish priest of his caliber.
Thank you once again for the visit to St Paul’s Catholic church in Mt Hagen and I hope some of our youths from the parish will benefit from the Indonesian scholarships that you announced during your visit.

Mamakin Jef Eso
