THE PNG Professional Boxing Gymnasium has rescheduled its March show to April 21 as the promoter looks for more corporate support.
President Elvin Wafewa said he was forced to postpone the show but he wanted to ensure all aspects of the promotion were on point.
“We didn’t want to do this but it is for the best,” Wafewa said.
“As long as we get everything ready in terms of sponsorship, the fighters, the titles, the sanctioning body’s approvals as well as that of our own PNG Boxing Control Board then we can move forward and that’s why we needed to push the date back.
“Our show was supposed to be on March 24 and I organised two fighters form Indonesia to fight our local fighters fro the lightweight (61.5kg) and bantamweight (54kg) titles.”
“It’s unfortunate. It’ll be next month but as promoter, I need the fighters and board to be patient for us to host this show,” Wafewa said.
Wafewa said he regretted keeping the fighters waiting but encouraged them to keep training and stay positive.
Lightweight Junior Kauko Raka and bantamweight Jimmy Pius are the local boxers who will meet the Indonesians for the Indo-Pacific Boxing Association titles.
Pakastani refugee Ezatullah Kakar, who lost a cruiserweight title fight to John Korake last year, will also feature on the card taking on Solomon Tamini in a junior middleweight (72.5kg) clash while Elias Konou faces Nelson Samson in the same division.
