UNIVERSITY of Technology pro vice-chancellor Prof Kaul Gena and his family were the first locals in Lae to be vaccinated with the Sinopharm vaccine last Friday.
Prof Gena told The National that he, wife Josephine and daughters Dini and Yuribia, had decided to take the Sinopharm vaccine.
“I read articles that Sinopharm is an inactivated virus Covid-19 vaccine and is similar to polio vaccine when inject in the body, the body system then develop antibodies to build immunity against the Covid-19 virus,” he said.
“Other vaccines engineered had uncertainties and side effects so I had to wait for Sinopham to arrive.
“Those who had received Sinopharm, the body itself developed immunity against the Covid-19 and its delta variant which is about 95-97 per cent successful and that is good rather than getting an MRNA vaccine that will confuse the body.
“I’m comfortable with getting Sinopharm and citizens should make a choice as there are several vaccines that have arrived in the country.
“Educate yourself about the vaccines and its side effects and decide which you think is best for you.”
The vaccine roll-out was conducted by a five-member team from the 11th China medical team that was sent to Lae last Monday for the Sinopharm vaccine roll-out for Chinese citizens initially and then locals in Morobe.
