THERE are no hard and fast rules to success, University of Papua New Guinea vice-chancellor Albert Mellam told a group of graduating students.

He told more than 400 students who graduated with diplomas, degrees and certificates from the Institute of Business Studies that a successful life was guaranteed “for each and every one of us if we truly make correct choices unhindered by our attitudes, prejudices and stereotypes”.

The institute provides international and university education for those who cannot make it into universities.

IBS director Sadiq Ali said: “It is very important to note that enrolling the leftover students by the universities and putting them ahead of other graduates is not only a remarkable achievement but also an excellent challenge for our students and us.’’

IBS has partnerships with the University of Papua New Guinea, Southern Cross University and the Australian Computer Society.

It hopes to become a world class institution.

“Indeed, IBS with its international partners, excellent teaching faculty, support staff and facilities is comfortably positioned to be the leader in business education in Papua New Guinea,” Ali said.

The graduation ceremony saw seven students receive degrees from Southern Cross University while 18 received advanced diplomas in business accounting. Seven received advanced diplomas in information technology.

More than 60 students were awarded diplomas in business and information technology.

The biggest number – 307 – was awarded certificates in accounting and computing.
