Programme facilitator hails malaria training

A WEEK-LONG malaria microscopists course under the trilateral malaria project and World Health Organisation (WHO) in Port Moresby produced good results, says the programme facilitator.
Facilitator Ken Lilley, from the Australian Defence Force Malaria and Infectious Disease Institute, said it was the fifth course in Papua New Guinea and the results “were very good”.
“We achieved five level-twos, two level-threes and five level-fours so I’ve looked at it very well,” Lilley said. The programme enabled 12 people from community level malaria areas to attend the course.
He said the participants made big improvements through the week.
Lilley said the participants had lost confidence because they were not seeing a lot of positive cases of malaria, which is great, throughout the country, but for their competency they needed more exposure.
