Programme members donate to blood bank

NINE members of the Greater Sepik Mobility Programme have voluntarily donated blood at the Sir Brain Bell Centre for Transfusion Medicine to save lives last week in Port Moresby.
Operations manager Xenia Peni told The National that the nine lifesaving blood bags that were collected would go a long way to assist those in need of blood at the Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH).
“They stopped into the donor centre last week before they departed for their programme in Australia,” Peni said.
She said for the Greater Sepik Mobility Programme itself, was the second group to have donated, with health checks performed on the donors before they had donated.
“Which included checking their weight, blood pressure and haemoglobin,” Peni said.
“These checks give donors good insights into their general health.”
She acknowledged Dr Preston Karue, the programme manager, and his team for organising the group to donate blood.
“We greatly appreciate your support,” she said.
Peni added that the blood bank has always been in need of blood to support the hospital and continuously needed volunteers to donate.
She appealed to the public to visit the blood bank and donate to save a life.
“You can come to the Sir Brian Bell Centre for Transfusion Medicine (blood bank) at PMGH.
“We are open daily from 9am to 3pm,” she said.
