BUK bilong Pikinini (BbP) will be celebrating World Book Day with an event at its Book shop/Reading Corner inside the Theodist stationery store.
BbP will launch ‘Our Special Stories’ with the help of PNG Hunters captain Ase Boas.
The book features the stories of 10 children living with disabilities in Papua New Guinea.
Children and Hunters players will enjoy reading some good stories and share the message of how important and fun it is to read together.
‘Our Special Stories’ has been printed in 10,000 copies and BbP now encourages schools to contact the organisation to get their free copies.
The book includes teachers’ notes, a glossary of terms and is aimed at getting the discussion of inclusion started in PNG classrooms.
It is also a testament to the country’s beauty with stunning photography provided by photographers Vanessa Kerton and Roan Paul.
Buk bilong Pikinini founder Anne-Sophie Hermann said: “Reading 15 minutes every day amounts to about one million words read in a year.
“Reading to children and allowing them to have their own books to read will see an improvement in basic literacy, vocabulary, grammar and spelling.”
