Project launched to give treatment of TB big push

A project has been launched to enhance and promote the treatment of tuberculosis in the Moresby North-East electorate, said a statement yesterday.
The project is called Accelerated Response for TB Treatment and is a collaboration between the office of Moresby North-East MP John Kaupa, World Vision and National Capital Health Services.
Kaupa is also Minister for Housing and Urbanisation.
The project was launched on Wednesday and will involve the use of community networks, volunteers, and any other support that may become available, said the statement from Kaupa’s office.
“I congratulate World Vision for bringing TB treatment to the doorstep of my people in North East electorate,” Kaupa said in the statement issued after the he had launched the project.
“That is something better. That is something tremendous.
“My door is open. If funds are required to support the project put your submission through and my administration will assess to assist from the District Service Improvement Programme’s health funding component.”
The project is the “first time for a State minister to be directly involved’ in a TB treatment and control programme in any electorate, said the Health Department’s national TB control programme manager Dr Paul Aia.
The will be two treatment sites in Gereka, two in 5-Mile and one each in Saraga, 6-Mile clinic, Erima, ATS, 8-Mile and 9-Mile.
There will be a similar project launched in Moresby North-West and Moresby South.
