THE pilot scheme of a globally successful cervical cancer early intervention programme is revealing promising early results at two hospitals in Western Highlands and Eastern Highlands.
The head of science at PNG’s Institute of Medical Research Andrew Vallely says a huge number of women are coming forward for screening and treatment of pre-cancerous cervical lesions during their visits to Mt Hagen and Goroka
hospitals.
He told Radio New Zealand that the technique used was a low cost, appropriate technology approach to cervical screening and early treatment in women between the ages of 30 and menopause.
