A MAN is dead and two students injured in a traffic accident along Aroma road between Kore and Garomarubu village last Friday.
Central Provincial Police Commander Chief Superintendent Johannes Yapi said the deceased was identified to be a security guard with Digicel PNG who was part of a team doing a promotion at Aroma.
He said the two students, from Aroma, were at the promotion site and were being given a ride to their home village in the Toyota Hilux double cab.
He said due to the heavy rain that evening the road was slippery forcing the vehicle to run off the road resulting in the accident at around 6pm.
He said the deceased body together with the two boys are now at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
Yapi said another accident occurred on June 15 at the Gabagaba turn-off with four deaths (a child, two male and a female) when Landcruiser and a sedan running on opposite lanes collided.
He urged drivers travelling along the Hiritano and Magi Highways to take extra precautions in this wet weather condition and to ensure that the vehicle is road worthy.
He asked all drivers to observe speed limits.
“In conditions such as this when it is raining the roads are slippery and some sections along the highway in Central are not properly serviced which results in accidents.”
He appealed to the communities living along the coast to take heed of weather warnings also.
