Promote fair workplace, O’Neill says

THE Government must encourage people to get the Coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine without creating situations that will discourage them from taking it, says Ialibu-Pangia MP Peter O’Neill.
He told Parliament last week that a fair workplace environment should be promoted alongside the Government’s voluntary vaccination policy which respected the rights of people.
He said there were a lot of people talking about the no-jab-no-job policy.
O’Neill said companies had the right to provide a safe working environment for its employees, but they too must have a fair working environment for employees.
“It’s clearly defined in our labour laws and the Government needs to apply these laws to protect these employees that don’t want to get the vaccine,” he said.
“Employers must provide a fair work place while at the same time ensure the safety of people.
“Just like when people get sick, we provide sick leave for them to go and get better before they come back to work, (or maternity leave for women).”
