Protect your PIN, BSP customers told

THE Bank South Pacific Financial Group Ltd (BSP) has warned its customers to protect their accounts’ personal identification number (PIN).
Chief executive officer Robin Fleming told The National that some of the bank’s customers had experienced fraudulent activities in their accounts due to card cloning.
Fleming said police were investigating the matter and the bank was carrying out an awareness for customer protection.
“Some BSP customers have experienced some fraudulent activity on their accounts that has been the result of criminally-produced cloned cards being used to facilitate the fraud,” Fleming said.
“As a result, BSP has published awareness for its customers in relation to use of their cards and also the protection of their PIN numbers.
“It has not yet been determined if there are sophisticated skimming devices in PNG which can capture PIN numbers as well as information on the magnetic stripe on cards, or if cards are being produced by other means. But in both cases, protecting PIN numbers is important.
“We encourage customers not to give their PIN number to anyone.”
