Provide more water facilities

Letters

LOCAL level government presidents and ward councillors need to seek funding from the five district development authorities (DDAs) in Southern Highlands to provide more water tanks for rural villages, schools and churches.
People cannot be let to fetch water from the unprotected springs and swamps as we are moving into the 21st century.
DDAs should allocate funding for rural water supply and sanitation projects.
We have the technical water supply officers available at the Health Department who are paid government employees that can be utilised for the installation of water supply projects in the province.
There is no need to contract other companies and contractors who do not have the experience on water and sanitation issues.
We have the water supply construction team here at the provincial health water supply office.
Other provinces are prioritising health services and are supportive, especially improving community health and primary healthcare services and Southern Highlands should shift the focus away from free handouts and complacency culture.
