A HYDRO project is moving into its next phase with a firm appointed to deliver its feasibility study.
Continuing its partnership with Enga Hydro Power Ltd, Snowy Mountain Engineering Corporation (SMEC) will deliver a feasibility study for the Pilikambi Hydropower Project.
SMEC successfully delivered the pre-feasibility study for the 18mw project which identified its technical and financial viability, submitting the pre-feasibility study report in July 2019.
The project is located on the Lagaip River near Pilikambi village.
Enga Hydro Power initiated the project in 2016 under a public-private partnership, working with private investors and the Enga government.
Once operational, the project will extend rural electrification in Enga, replacing diesel generation with sustainable energy.
The feasibility study will include supervision and management of the feasibility level field investigations, project preliminary designs, drawings and cost estimates for the analysis of the technical and financial viability of the Pilikambi Hydropower project.
Environmental and social studies will follow for the optimum project configuration upon confirmation of the project’s viability.
“The development of the project will ensure the availability of reliable renewable energy,” SMEC manager for hydropower Tilak Battharai said.
