SMALL to medium enterprises (SMEs) in East New Britain were happy to receive K2 million from their provincial government last Tuesday.
The launching and presentation of the funding was done at the East New Britain Savings and Loans Society (ENBSL) following the signing of partnership and mutual commitment between ENBSL and the ENB government.
The memorandum of agreement (MoA) between ENBSL and ENB government is to support local SMEs in the province.
ENB Governor Nakikus Konga said there was so much talk about SMEs and small programmes in the communities.
“My government’s direction is to focus on ward levels, therefore, we came up with this programme so that when people are in need they can come and loan money,” Konga said.
“My job and other members’ job is to make good conducive policies such as this programme for people.”
ENBSL director Sir Sinai Brown encouraged SMEs to make use of the funding when in need and make use of the opportunity so that all can contribute meaningfully in growing the local economy.
“This is a good programme and I urge all SMEs, wards, LLGs, public servants, parents and stakeholders to open an account with ENBSL and deposit money so that you can be part of the programme in taking loans to assist you financially,” Sir Sinai said.
He said the scheme should stop people from going in and out of the governor’s office asking for money.
“All must appreciate the effort our provincial government is putting as this is a step forward in the right direction for our people.”
