Province launches e-library platform

A DEMONSTRATION of the e-library platform, named “Sepik Genius”, was hosted at the Divine Word University’s St Benedict’s campus in Wewak, East Sepik, last Thursday.
Students and staff of the St Benedict’s Campus witnessed how a grade seven student ordered two books under her grade level and got them lined up within seconds.
With this, she can go offline to read.
Initiated by Governor Allan Bird, the “Sepik Genius” is likely to be the biggest rollout of a platform in the country, aimed at improving the distribution of both the curriculum and library books to all urban and semi-urban schools in the province.
According to Bird, DWU’s St Benedict’s campus was chosen for the demonstration because it was a premier university campus where all the leading brains in the province were coming from, especially with the ones who would graduate and become teachers to teach the upcoming generation in East Sepik.
“The vision is to change the way we do business because the current way is too expensive,” he said.
“We need to be smart and innovative to do things differently, faster and more effectively with less money and still come up with quality results.
“We’re calling it the ‘Sepik Genius’ in the essence that we’re using a smarter version to solve a bigger problem for our province.”
