FIVE provinces – West Sepik, East New Britain, Central, Madang and Enga – are most at risk for drought, according to the National Weather Services.
It said recently, little or no rainfall had caused drier conditions in most parts of the country, extending drought conditions nationwide.
In an update this week, the National Weather Service said: “From June to August, dry conditions are expected over East and West Sepik, dry to neutral conditions are expected for Mamose region and the north-east islands and neutral to wet conditions are likely for the rest of the country.
“East New Britain has been consistently dry the past few months and may go into drought by soon.”
It said it would continue to monitor and report any developments of severe weather.
