PANDEMIC Response Controller David Manning says Western, West Sepik and Eastern Highlands are now classified as high risk coronavirus (Covid-19) provinces.
“We have also classified the Philippines and India as high risk countries,” he said.
Eleven new measures were issued by the National Control Centre on Friday as the country worked towards minimising the spread of the Covid-19 Delta variant that had seen 30 infections to date.
“This means the provinces now have certain measures that only apply to the provinces and nowhere else,” Manning said.
“The three provinces will now see roadblocks at all major highways leading in and out of the provinces, with all persons travelling in and out of the province to be tested for Covid-19.” Manning said tests should be approved prior to travelling into and out of the three provinces.
“No one is to travel into and out of the three provinces, except those who have been fully vaccinated, have a valid reason to travel and have approval from the provincial administrator,” he said.
“Those who have travelled into the provinces and countries classified as high risk in the past 14 days, regardless of being vaccinated or partially vaccinated, must quarantine in their residence or another location directed by the office of the controller.”
“They must remain in quarantine and segregated from other persons for the period of the arrival and ending at midnight on day 14,” Manning said. “Those provinces not declared as high risk are considered medium risk.”
