Provisional women’s team named

THE Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) has announced a provisional squad to kick-off the national women’s training programmes in preparation for the inter-confederation play-off in New Zealand in February for a spot in the Fifa Women’s World Cup.
From the 37-player squad, 24 are from the Oceania Football Confederation Women’s Nations Cup squad while 13 are new faces joining the team to earn a spot for the play-off tournament.
The PNGFA said split group training programmes would be held in Port Moresby, Lae and Madang where local technical officials would supervise trainings.
PNGFA technical director Paul Isorua said all players would follow the same training programmes for the next two weeks with their focus on high performance and fitness.
PNG has been grouped in Pool C with Chinese Taipei, Paraguay and Panama with their first fixture scheduled against Panama on Feb 19 at the North Harbour Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand.
