Public relations skills vital

Letters

I AM of the opinion that security guards and cashiers at supermarket must have good public relations skills.
This is because they interact with all kinds of people from professional level down to grassroots level on a daily basis.
I was embarrassed in full public view when a baby walker I purchased could not fit into a plastic bag because it was big.
I was given a receipt and I exited the shop inside the mall.
A cashier at another counter yelled for me to go back and pay for what I was taking out.
I returned and showed her the receipt.
Then out of the blue, a guard steps in and asked for the receipt and I presented it to him.
While walking away, another guard asked for the receipt.
Well, I thought to myself, ‘I am not going to waste my time on such a security personnel, let alone a rude cashier’, and walked away.
Similarly, a few months back , I had turned up at a Government department for a scheduled meeting.
As I approached the gate, the static security guard asked if I had made an appointment for the visit.
I replied that I had a scheduled meeting.
He insisted I needed to make an appointment.
This is the most-ridiculous and absurd thing I have ever come across.
That is why it is important for people in these roles to have very good public relations skills.
Additionally, the general public consists of people who have different types of attitudes.
Some may have very serious attitudes.
I therefore, suggest that security service regulatory authorities should make it compulsory for security companies to
recruit people with sound
mind.
The security guards need to do IQ test.
