Public servant Salle killed in road accident

POLICE in East Sepik are urging a suspect involved in a road accident that killed a senior public servant in Wewak yesterday to turn himself in.
According to police commander Supt Christopher Tamari, the driver of a hire car company was travelling at high speed when he collided into another vehicle killing its passenger.
The deceased was identified as senior protocol officer Yani Salle.
Tamari said police had liased with the family of the suspect to bring him in.
“Suspect is known to police, we are hoping he will surrender soon,” he added.
It was alleged, that the incident happened between 8am and 9am at the Boram airport area.
The suspect, believed to be intoxicated, was driving into Wewak when he lost control and hit Salle’s parked vehicle.
Police said that Salle had to be pulled out from under his vehicle and they tried to save him but he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle which hit Salle together with his accomplices, allegedly hijacked a passing vehicle and fled the scene before the police were alerted.
