PUBLIC servants have signed an agreement to enforce the government’s year of implementation.

The agreement was signed by district administrators from the Mamose region and Chimbu with government agencies, including the national inter-departmental committee, Department of Planning and Monitoring, the NEC and Prime Minister’s Department, Treasury and Central Supplies and Tenders Board.

The agreement was signed at a two-day workshop on public sector workforce development programme held in Madang.

Participants recommended that leadership skills for bureaucratic leaders were to be furnished, strengthen working relationships between bureaucrats and politicians and inform politicians on processes and government systems for them to fund development plans in districts.

They also agreed to follow all government regulations when implementing government plans, adopt more effective and proactive performance and management approaches that engender continuous learning and improvement.

The way forward also stated alternate financial delegates should not be allowed to prevent misuse of funds and also to identify two districts per provinces and raise the level to benchmark levels.

The district treasury roll out programme is to be completed by next year for the region.

The Mamose team said they were committed to provide the leadership and motivation in 2013 and beyond in order to provide vital government services to their people.

Usino Bundi MP Anton Yagama, who witnessed the signing of the agreement, said the signed agreement would really benefit his district considered to be one of the least developed.

However he said public servants must take that seriously and fulfil the agreement.

Deputy Provincial Administrator for Morobe Patilias Gamato said public servants heard that this year was year of implementation but were not really clear on how they would actually do that.
