Public servants next in line to get pay rise in the bank

DISCIPLINED services, the law and justice sector and revenue-raising agencies are expected to receive their 3 per cent pay rise and back-pay in pay number 17 and pay 18.
Public Service Minister Elias Kapavore announced this earlier following a recent Cabinet decision.
Pay 17 would kick in mid-late August.
The National Executive Council had directed the Treasury Department to provide funding for the public sector pay awards covering 120,000 public employees’ 3 per cent annual increase each year from this year to 2019.
In a statement, Kapavore said the delay in implementation was due to the Government’s severe cash-flow restrictions over the past two years.
The teachers were the first group to be paid their awards last fortnight or pay number 13 and would continue to pay number 16.
“The teachers to go first, the disciplined forces, law and justice sector and revenue raising agencies, the health workers, remaining public servants and other agencies,” Kapavore said.
He said that this was the only way that the Government was able to settle the outstanding payments. The health workers, remaining public servants and other agencies are expected to be paid by pay number 22.
Chief Secretary Isaac Lupari yesterday confirmed that all public servants would receive their outstanding awards when pay 17 kick in mid-late August.
