PUBLIC servants in Southern Highlands working at the provincial headquarters have been told to attend morning devotions every Wednesday before they start work.
The directive came from acting provincial administrator Joseph Cajestan who said they must spend between 10 to 20 minutes on devotions.
Cajestan relayed the message while visiting the five districts in the province to hand out funds allocated for the 43rd Independence anniversary celebration.
He said pastors from different denominations would be invited to lead the prayer sessions. He said public servants were servants of the people who needed to fear the Lord and work with honesty to serve the people.
“We must give time to God. He is watching. If we are not performing our duties or absent for work and collecting fortnight salaries, it is like stealing. We are cheating,” he said. “That money has no blessing. While illiterate people are sweating their guts every day to make ends meet, we are doing nothing and getting paid for it. It is unfair.”
Cajestan said many public servants were not attending work and using the excuse of the political unrest in the province.
