PUBLIC servants need to work together and deal with service delivery issues to ensure that people’s needs are taken care of, Department of Personnel Management secretary John Kali says.

He said the Government had shifted most of its resources to the provinces, districts and local level governments in this year’s budget.

“Therefore, prudent established guidelines must be followed by public servants to ensure the funds transferred to the sub-national levels of government are properly managed and tangible results are achieved. This will improve the delivery of services to the ordinary people of Papua New Guinea,” Kali said.

“Such an approach requires our political leaders, bureaucrats in Waigani, bureaucrats in the sub national levels of government, private sector, NGOs, churches, donors and the public to work together through the provincial and local level services monitoring authority mechanism.

“And in order to strengthen this approach, the department had initiated a series of regional workshops through the public service workforce development programme.”

Kali said the recent Highlands and Mamose regional workshops were successful with clear strategies proposed and agreed on by the respective provincial administrations and national departments.
