PUMA Energy PNG country manager and director Hulala Tokome says the company is focused on providing the nation with the fuels and petroleum products it needs to drive the economy.
Tokome told The National that the recent surge in the Covid-19 cases in PNG made business continuity even more important for its Puma facilities in the country and its operations.
“We are the largest supplier of petroleum products in the country with 100 days’ cover for all the country’s energy requirements,” he said.
“We take PNG crude oil from the nation’s offshore fields to produce the refined products essential to industry, business, the Government and households whether it is gasoline (petrol), aviation fuel, diesel, liquefied petroleum gas or bunker fuel while our Future Energies team helps customers with low carbon solutions including solar power.
“The current surge in the Covid-19 cases makes business continuity even more important for us at the Napa Napa refinery, our terminal facilities, aviation depots, and our retail sites to keep customers supplied with fuel, lubricants, PumaGas for cooking, petrol, aviation fuel, marine fuels, and other industrial products.
“We have stepped up our Covid-19 controls and all our operational sites are operating normally.”
When asked if the company was considering market opportunities in Australia given the shutdown of refineries, Tokome said Puma rarely exported fuel but routinely exported other by-products.
