PWDs, caregivers undergo self-reliance training

THIRTY people with a disability (PWD) and caregivers in Bulolo, Morobe, are being trained to be self-reliant by applying principles of leadership.
The PWDs and their caregivers attended a week-long training on leadership and financial literacy which started last Monday at the PNG University of Technology’s Bulolo campus.
The training was an empowerment programme by the Australian department of foreign affairs and trade through the justice services and stability for development in partnership with the Bulolo Disabled Association.
The training was facilitated by secondary school teacher Noah Keneqa and business manager Aliyame Vauri.
The training ended last Friday.
Training coordinator Thelma Hungito said they saw the need to train members of the association because they wanted them to be self-reliant.
Their first activity was social mapping in the district’s six local level governments.
Hungito said from the social mapping activity, they had identified that most PWDs in the district were struggling due to unemployment.
