AN Air Niugini flight en route to Brisbane’s Australia had to return to the Jackson International Airport in Port Moresby yesterday morning after experiencing technical issues mid-air.
The National’s associate editor Harris Choy, who was on the flight, said the plane started vibrating after 10 minutes into the flight.
“It felt like something was going to fall off (as) it was shaking too much,” Choy said.
“The pilot said there was a technical problem and we came back and landed about 20 minutes later.”
He said the plane was back on the tarmac at Jackson International airport at 7.15am.
Choy described the ordeal as terrifying saying he was thankful to be alive. Air Niugini in response to questions sent by The National confirmed the incident.
“Whilst there were no significant technical issues with the aircraft, the matter was easier addressed at our home maintenance base in Port Moresby, rather than at an away location.
PNG Accident and Investigation Commission Chief Commissioner Hubert Hanjause Namani when contacted for a comment said his term had expired and would not comment.
