AIR Niugini’s Dash 8-Q400 Next Generation aircraft will soon fly to Goroka in Eastern Highlands after successful flight tests carried out by evaluation team sent by Canadian authorities to the province recently.
In a statement yesterday, Air Niugini said the flight tests were carried out by Bombardiers’ performance executives and pilots from Canada.
Further analysis of the data would allow the Q400 to begin operations to Goroka.
The Dash 8-Q400 aircraft has a 74-seat capacity and can fly to almost all major airports in the country.
Due to airport runway problems at the Goroka airport, Air Niugini’s jet aircraft have ceased operations to the province for almost three years now.
Air Niugini also advised its passengers that its Boeing 757 aircraft is scheduled for its C check effective on Sunday.
The scheduled maintenance will be carried out for up to three weeks under arrangements with the leasing company.
The airline said its two Boeing 767 aircraft would be servicing the routes that were currently operated by the B757 during the maintenance period until the aircraft is back in service.
After the arrival of the B757 from its maintenance, one of ANG’s B767 aircraft (P2-ANA) will depart for its C check.
The national airline said at this stage, the B767 maintenance was scheduled for Oct  5 to 24.
