PX launches its loyalty plan

THE national flag carrier Air Niugini for the firs time launched its ‘Destination’ loyalty Programme (DLP) yesterday.
The launch marked the finalisation of the initial drive for foundation members in the programme and the beginning of a three- month rollout period that would see the programme come into full effect.
The foundation membership drive commenced in August last year and has seen more than 20,000 people join in which 8% are PNG residents.
During a press conference prior to the launching, Air Niugini chief executive officer Wansatha Kumarasiri told reporters that “DLP is an innovative feature in Air Nuigini’s marketing programme that will provide effective strategy for identifying, growing and developing a long-term relationship” with its most valued customers.
He said: “In return, the loyalty program provides our customers the opportunity to be rewarded for choosing to fly with us.”
Mr Kumarasiri said the highlight of the programme was family membership where the entire family could pool their points to obtain a valid reward flight for any nominated family member.
“Our decision to include this unique feature was the result of our understanding of the PNG market knowing that the family unit is an important and integral fabric of Melanesian society,” he said.
Governor-General Sir Paulias Matane while congratulating the DLP initiative, said: “the names itself conveys a ‘must see’ invitation to our beautiful country’s breathtaking sceneries.
“I hope this signals the beginning of a better and more improved customer-oriented services for our people and, at the same time, attract international visitors to our truly unique and wonderful destinations of PNG.”
State Enterprises Minister Authur Somare said: “It’s encouraging to witness a major innovation in travel industry marketing in Air Niugini’s DLP.
“The programme is well-positioned to facilitate growth and development in the travel and tourism industry.”
DLP is aimed at encouraging individuals to travel and accumulate points that can be redeemed on other travel opportunities.
