PX: Madang, Wewak airport still under repairs

AIR Niugini has temporarily suspended flights into Madang between July 23 and Aug 13 because the runway was shortened for maintenance.
Air Niugini said both the Madang and Wewak airports were shortened by the National Airports Corporation (NAC) to allow for runway maintenance and upgrading works.
“As a result of the work, Air Niugini flights to and from Madang and Wewak are being operated by Dash-8 turboprop aircraft, operated by our subsidiary company Link PNG,” the company said.
“Due to the shortened length of runways, even Dash-8 aircraft have restrictions on the number of passengers they can ferry.
“The runways work at Madang and Wewak are in addition to works at Lae’s Nadzab Airport, announced by the airline last week.
“Air Niugini regrets the inconvenience but safety remains our main concern.
“We look forward to resuming our Fokker jet services to Madang and Wewak when maintenance at both airports are completed.
“This is presently a forecast by NAC, weather permitting.”
